OEM acronym stands for Original Equipment Manufactured glass. OEM glass is essentially identical to the glass you would receive from your dealer except that it might not be from the same distributor. OEM glass provides the same- thickness, color, shape, size and durability as the original.
When opting to buy OEM auto glass, you will have to identify a reliable repair center that offers genuine OEM glass. Generally speaking, OEM glass is more durable, but also lot more expensive. OEM auto glass comes with similar terms of guarantee to auto glass produced by the manufacturer.
OEM windshields and other types of OEM auto glass like door, vent, quarter and back glasses can be purchased from an automobile dealer authorized by the vehicle manufacturers.
OEE Auto Glass
The acronym OEE stands for Original Equipment Equivalent in the glass market. The manufacturers of OEE auto glass are independent and have no binding agreement with the original auto glass manufacturers. As such, the OEE glass manufacturers are also not legally permitted to manufacture glass of identical thickness, color, shape etc.
Price is the basic attraction for people choosing to buy OEE auto glass. OEE glass is significantly cheaper than OEM glass. OEE glass however does not come with the types of guarantee like OEM glass.
OEE glass is strikingly different from OEM glass. But, OEE glass is favored by many and there are no serious complaints.
Final Thoughts
Many prospective buyers of auto glass are not aware of the specific differences between OEM and OEE auto glass.
It must be however stated that the vehicle manufacturers have a particular glass specifications in mind and OEM glasses conform to those specifications.
Comparatively speaking, cheaper versions of after market glass have a higher risk of causing problems while driving on the road.
While cheap aftermarket glass may have the same measurements as an OEM or some reliable OEE auto glass, the glass quality will be inferior and may even be more fragile.
